Promote the benefits of high performance buildings

Train the next generation of built environment professionals

The Global Building Network aims for voluntary adoption of the UNECE Framework Guidelines for Energy Efficiency Standards in Buildings by cities and communities around the world. It is comprehensive and strategically sequenced, targets global impact, and anticipates multiple partnerships driving implementation. It is intended to respond forcefully and effectively to a historic challenge and opportunity. It will be a leading instrument in the movement for sustainable development worldwide.

The education program’s purpose is to achieve the goals of the “Framework” in a way that exponentially expands access to effective, evidence-based education and training to targeted audiences. This program is intended to provide the motivation, knowledge and skills to transform the building industry and the built environment so that buildings globally are healthy and powered by clean energy.

Many building-related educational initiatives have been developed around with variable levels of global and regional impact. A strategy employed by the GBN will be to build the capacity of regional education and training entities to develop the capabilities of policymakers, professionals, and skilled workforce to plan, build, and maintain high performing buildings in a manner that is responsive to their regional climate, economy, and energy systems. We will work with partner universities, industry organizations, and Centers of Excellence to identify successful and promising educational programs for adaption and dissemination in scalable approaches that are location-specific and culturally appropriate. As the Global Building Network’s research program activates, the education program will be informed by research results.
